An African hardwood hand-carved Makonde Masai Family Ties sculpture from Mozambique. Makonde art refers to African sculpture created by craftspeople belonging to the Makonde people of Mozambique and southern Tanzania. Ujamaa or Tree of life sculptures portray clusters of connected people supporting one another. The current example is nicely carved of heavy hardwood, probably ebony, and depicts Masai warriors in a joined grouping.
